Major Congdon

Major Congdon - a character from the Pieter van Es thriller series

Major Congdon (he hasn’t used his real first name for years) runs Congdon’s Brasserie near the harbour in Penzance. The major is in his 60s and served with the British Army in Northern Ireland. He still wears his General Service Medal over his chef’s whites.

The major is a busybody who likes to know exactly what is going on around him in Penzance. Unfortunately, he has a tendency to exaggerate the stories that he hears but his regulars have got used to his ways.

He runs his brasserie with a rod of iron, although he is usually chief cook and bottle washer too. The major lives with his wife Audrey in a 1970s terraced house in Newlyn overlooking Mount’s Bay.

The major plays bowls and rides his horse when he gets an opportunity.
